(KINGSVILLE, ON) – The Road to Folkfest Concert Series has released its season schedule. The music series helps to fundraise for the Kingsville Folk Music Festival, which is held each August at Lakeside Park in Kingsville.
Over the next half year, the Road to Folkfest is hosting four nights at the Lions Community Hall at 23 Mill Street West.
Small Glories | October 6
The Small Glories are Cara Luft and JD Edwards who meld together a folksy and rocking sound which is in demand across North America and Europe. Jennifer Ives, of the Rock Music Festival, describes the duo as, ”the ultimate: two amazing solo performers who somehow manage to melt into one entity, creating incredible harmonies that still raise the hairs on the back of my neck as I write.”
Union Duke | November 24
No strangers to this neck of the woods, Union Duke is a Toronto folk quintet who always present an explosive live show. They bridge soulful indie rock with bluegrass and country as the group belts out soaring harmonies with three, four, and even five voices.
Slocan Ramblers | February 8
The Slocan Ramblers will arrive in Kingsville fresh from a tour of the British Isles. The nattily dressed quartet from Toronto always provide an energetic live show displaying their bold, dynamic sound. Sing Out! Magazine calls the Ramblers, “a tight-knit ensemble with a lot of drive, yet with something of a tantalizing “rough edge” to their sound.”
Dave Gunning | March 29
There’s been an uproar of popular demand for the return of Dave Gunning to Kingsville. The Pictou, NS, native has 11 solo albums under his belt and countless international live performances. Gunning has eight East Coast Music Awards, two Canadian Folk Music Awards, and a 2012 Juno Award nomination.
Truly, what makes Gunning so remarkable as an entertainer is his rare gift to be able to befriend the audience as a whole from the stage throughout the course of the concert. – The Guardian
Tickets to the Road to Folkfest Concert Series are now on sale online for just $25 or a season package of $80, per person. The doors open at 7pm with the shows starting at 8pm each evening.
