(KINGSTON, ON) – The votes are in and Kingston has chosen the Tragically Hip lyric Everybody was in it from miles around… from song Blow at High Dough to be displayed on a commemorative stone in Springer Market Square.
“August 20, The Tragically Hip Day in Kingston, is a night Kingstonians and Canadians will always remember,” said mayor Bryan Paterson. “Thank you to all those who voted on the lyric to be displayed on the commemorative stone, a physical showcase of our pride and love for our iconic hometown boys.”
More than 11,000 votes were cast. There were 11,280 total votes, including 3,580 from the local Kingston area. The first option We danced the sidewalk clean… received 3,300 votes, 870 local, while the winning Everybody was in it from miles around… was the overwhelming favourite with 7,982 votes, 2,710 local.
City staff will now work to finalize the material, design, and commemoration location of the stone in consultation with the First Capital Place Advisory Committee. The stone, to commemorate the August 20 Tragically Hip concert, will now read, Everybody was in it from miles around… The Tragically Hip A National Celebration August 20, 2016.
