Reception To Kick Off Open Studio Tour

(WINDSOR, ON) – Over 30 local artists are offering a sneak peak of the art they will have on display in their studios during the 6th Annual Windsor Essex Artist Open Studio Tour weekend later this month.

The visiting public will have an opportunity to preview art and meet the artists participating in this year’s Studio Tour. Artists will be available at ArtSpeak Gallery throughout the week to speak to the interested public and will offer demonstrations.

“Visitors will go where their personal interests take them,” said Linda Monin, the chair of the Studio Tour.

“Many will make decisions as to what Tour stops they will make based on what they see at ArtSpeak the week before,” said Nancy Bauer, an artist on the Studio Tour.

There will be a artist reception on September 16 from 6:00pm until 9:00 pm at Artspeak Gallery, at 1492 Wyandotte Street East in Windsor.

The reception is free and open to all audiences, and is another great opportunity to meet Studio Tour Artists. Light refreshment will be served and Bruce Rutter will accompany visitors with his violin.

The Studio Tour itself is a two day event held on September 24 and 25. It is a free, self-guided art tour of the studios and galleries featuring the participating artists. Many of the 22 tour sites will host artist’s talks and demonstrations in conjunction with the chance to explore the creative process in locations as diverse as the art on display.

The WEAOST is a project of the Arts and Cultural Alliance of Windsor Essex County, a registered, non-profit, membership-based organization whose goal is to strengthen the arts and cultural sectors through cooperative relationships, special events, and community projects.

“The Open Studio Tour was planned with the desire to foster an appreciation for the role that Artists play in the vitality of our community and in our local economy,” said Leona MacIntyre, CAE and executive director of the Arts and Cultural Alliance of Windsor Essex County.

The combination brochure/map/passport includes photos of artist’s work, maps, addresses, contact and prize eligibility information. Open Studio Tour brochures are available at tourist information centers, local businesses, galleries, tour sites, and on the official website.
