Calling Youthful Artists

(WINDSOR, ON) – Entries are now being accepted for a youth art show and sale to raise funds for G5 Windsor.

Kids Creating for Change; For Peace Sake will be held on August 30 at Water’s Edge Event Centre, from 6:00pm to 9:00pm, and will showcase amazing artwork created by Windsor and area youth. Admission is just $2.

The event was actually created by children. Max, whose mother Tina is a member of G5 Windsor, wanted to participate in the fundraising, but all of the events had been geared towards adults. Max suggested the art show and other children eagerly joined him.

“I wanted to help sponsor a family,” said Max, a grade 6 student. “To bring them to Windsor to be safe. I love art. Most kids love art. It doesn’t cost a lot to make. All you need is paper and pencils, or other things if you want, and imagination. Every kid can do this, and help raise money.”

Ayesha Saleem Drouillard is one of the event organizers who helped the children turn their idea into a real event.

“It’s a fun way for kids to make a difference while expressing their own creativity,” Drouillard said. “It reinforces the message that there’s always something you can do to help other people and make the world a better place, no matter how old you are.”

Children up to 16 years of age can submit any artwork that they like: drawings, paintings, sculptures, etc. The artist is also asked to recommend a sale price and the pieces will then be sold with all funds going to G5 Windsor, a local group raising funds to sponsor a refugee family from Syria.

The deadline for submissions is August 25, and pieces should be dropped off at City Cyclery, 553 Lincoln Road, or Truthful Healings, 1958 Wyandotte Street. Artwork should include the artist’s name, age, name of piece, priced under $30, phone number, or email address.
