(WINDSOR, ON) – Together We Flourish, a local community organization, is hosting the Breaking Barriers art contest, that is designed to showcase the diverse voices of youth in Windsor. Participants are encouraged to explore themes such as socio-political issues of identity and barriers to social inclusion.
There are a series of workshops scheduled, which will be held to help and equip interested artists to create mural artwork that draws from their own life experiences. The contest is open to youth from 15 to 29 and cash prizes of $1000, $500, and $250 will be awarded.
There are two workshops to be held this month to assist artists with creating the themes for their murals. The first will be at Windsor Women Working with Immigrant Women, at 1368 Ouellette Avenue, on March 14, 15, and 16 from 1:00pm until 3:00pm. The second will be held at the Bloomfield House at 3735 King Street, on March 18 from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm, and on March 19 and 20 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.
The contest is scheduled to be completed in May and the mural pieces will be unveiled at the end of the summer block party, where city representatives will come to witness the transformation of this community space and vote on their favourite pieces.
Interested youth are encouraged to register for the workshops and contest.
This project was made possible by the generous funding of the Laidlaw Foundation.
